Why do religious people create so much anxiety over sex?

Ok, so promiscuity and sex before marriage are considered sins. But so is gluttony, yet nobody ever tried to shut down a Country Buffet "for the sake of the children".Why do religious people create so much anxiety over sex?
You have to look at the history of church beliefs, back in the middle ages, sex was discouraged even between a husband and wife.

Celebacy was mentioned by many holy scripts in early times as a way to get closer to God.
I think they can comprehend the idea that a god is watching them. Why do religious people create so much anxiety over sex?
They're not getting enough of it apparently.
GREAT QUESTION!Why do religious people create so much anxiety over sex?
Good point, Why do we drive on parkways and park on driveways?
Because people feel anxious about their own sexuality. People have made it into a "closed door" subject, something not to be discussed openly.

I can see where people think it is an intimate subject, whereas food usually isn't; however, the obvious taboo many people place on it is ridiculous. Sexuality is a part of life; without it, nobody would exist.
They better not shut down the country buffets!
CL Richardson-- But obesity is a big contributor to heart disease, which is the #1 cause of death in America.

You fail.

%26lt;Edit%26gt;

That's why people use condoms, genius...
Since they can't have, NEITHER CAN WE!!!!!
sex is not seen as a sin.

We have a thing called sexual partner who is basically someone you have sex with.

You do not need to cheat or lie to a sexual partner.

You do not need to love a sexual partner.

The hatred of sex was probably invented by people not so handsome/pretty to make themselves feel better.
I asked a similar question a couple days ago without generating one worthwhile answer from a Christian (of course). A sin is a sin, why is sex put in a noose? Sex is sex, married or unmarried, love or no love. It just is. Le sigh... It's guilt I guess. Sex makes some of us blush, not to mention it's the means to produce brand new little Christ followers. We want to make sure we control that, don't we? :p
The fundamental nature of all living organisms revolves around sex, and yet we have a society, specifically the religious aspects of society, that demonize sex. This forced contradiction to our very nature will understandably lead to anxiety.
Because country buffet does not cause gluttony. I have eaten there before without being gluttonous.

Also not all fat people are guilty of gluttony. Sometimes it is a medical condition.

However, you are correct, churches need to speak up on gluttony more often these days in the USA.
I agree.

I see no issue with sex in the context of two people that love each other. Sex is a wonderful thing and truly a gift to mankind. If it were purely for procreation, why does it feel so good?!?

My faith does not dwell on sex. We do not see sex with your loving partner as a sin. We also do not believe that sex, in itself, is sinful.

Of course, as with all things, some take it to the extreme and distort it's function. But that does not make that person any less human, good, admirable, or anything.

What others do in the privacy of their own homes is there business. Not any religion or churches business.
Most religious people want the very best for their children and others. Promiscuity and sexual encounters does nothing but harm. It either hurts the person emotionally, or physically. There has been no good coming out of the sexual revolution. Sin is Sin.
Sex is probably the pinnacle of enjoyable experiences, and as we all know, anything enjoyable is a sin. So sex must be the top sin, as a result they get fixated on it

I'm going from memory here, it's been a loooong time
Because misery loves company.
actually gluttony is a sin, one of the seven deadly sins as a matter of fact, proving just another contradiction in the Bible.

And the reason sex is is because of old school beliefs. You have to understand the history of Christianity before it split into branches like Mormonism, Protestantism, etc. At the time the religion was born, there was overpopulation and disease running rampant.

Promiscuity was at its highest (excpet maybe now in America lol) so they not only wrote it in the Bible but taught it in person to kids. They said it enough times that they believed it themselves and so did the kids, putting a type of stigma on sex.

Instead of teaching the right reasons to be abstinent, the government put it through religion that sex was bad period...completely ignoring human nature and reproduction period.

However, this does not apply to Muslims, Jews, nor any other religion from the East. It mainly applies to Christianity which, given its history, makes sense
Sex is a powerful act. It is right to be responsible, mature and moderate with it, even in these days of contraception. The problem with religious opposition is that it takes a hard-line stance in the belief (perhaps accurate) that people will exploit every loop-hole if you give them any wiggle room. So it is a hard no from the religious, so denying people responsibility for their own actions.
Funny question and I must agree that for ions the extremely religious, zealous, narrow minded of any generation have tended to take on this mentality about sex. I especially liked your comparison to "shuttin down the buffet" idea (LOL).... and it makes a good point. HOWEVER, in all fairness to the 'believing' - many do attempt to shelter themselves, their children and the innocent among us from the foul, depraved parts of society who would not only make light of what we consider sacred, holy %26amp; divine - which is sexual relations and procreation between husband %26amp; wife - but the world mocks this idea, stomps on it and puts this once respected ideal in the gutter more often than not.

So yes taking the opposite stance from the world sometimes tends to bring about anxiety in everyone and it's hard to take a moderate stand on something that is SO important and so prominent in the world, in media, advertising etc....

I think we ALL struggle with finding moderation in an extreme world and ANXIETY is just the fall out of that attempt. For all of us in many ways.
Because satan uses sex as a tool to chain man. It is the easiest way for satan to deceive man. So that s why religious worry so much about it.
Certain people throughout religious time were either homosexuals who where persecuted, or just ugly people who did not get laid ever. Hell Jesus himself was getting it on enough for the other apostles to be extremely jealous of Mary Magelan. Do you think that 90% of the other sex is actually happy with their monogamous partners when we are genetically made up to go out and get some as males-Hell no. They just don't know better- if they did they would not give money and the false bricks would fall. Religion is as dependent on fear as the Roman Empire was and now our own Country. Just read your history of religion outside the Bible (the real stuff) and you will see fear rules the masses throughout any major organization- just try not to fall prey to it! If this makes any of you right wing nuts feel mad it's because the TRUTH HURTS!
Actually, it's not religious people who establish the anxiety. Being responsible is good for the individual and for the society. It's when people try to influence others to behave irresponsibly that the problems start.

Nobody is promoting Country Buffet as healthful, normal, or socially indispensible. Nobody is suggesting that those who shun it are losers.
Sexual sins and any sin defiles the body, mind and spirit of a person. Lust, greed, spiritual deceptions, sexual addictions, drug abuse, mental abuse, depressions and oppression all are the working of demonic activity as they attempt to possession their victims who gives themselves over to such sins. God has ordain the Marriage between one man and one woman and has placed them under a blood covenant to which the devil himself wants to defile and destroy it's holy union unto God, by deceiving the minds of men and women to give themselves over to seducing spirits leading them into a abnormal lifestyles such as with the gay community, God sent his Son, so that people can be free. Free from the power of sin and death and the deceptions of temptation that lead people in the flames of hell and everlasting punishment.. Sex is the most awesome when it is shared between a man and a woman married couple united under God.. Their bed is undefiled but those who commit sex outside of marriage, defile themselves and curse their relationship by doing so...
Sex without marriage is a sin. God made Adam %26amp; Eve to create Cain %26amp; Abel; also He made sex so that Adam %26amp; Eve could enjoy each other. Take a look at all of the divorces, children born to unwed mothers, AIDS, other sexual diseases; I don't believe that all of this would exist if one man %26amp; one woman who loved each other, only had sex with each other would cause all of these problems.
The Country Buffet never gave anyone AIDS, got anyone pregnant, or ruined anyone's marriage. I don't have anxiety over sex; I'm happily married. ;)

Sweetness- Country Buffet doesn't cause obesity. Abuse of Country Buffet causes obesity, just as abuse of sex causes disease.
Gluttony is not a sin.

When Jesus fed the 5,000, the Greek word said that all the people were "gluttoned". Jesus doesn't lead people into sin.

Only the catholic cult calls "gluttony" a sin. Catholicism is not Christian.
Anxiety over sex comes from guilt for having sex out of a marriage between a man and woman. Guilt comes from doing something wrong. A married man and woman have no guilt from sex, because it is their gift from God.

People's own choice causes gluttony, not the Country Buffet.
Sex before marriage is a sin and un-pure. Yes gluttony is a sin but who is to choose the greater sin?? Only Christ alone!
Do you feel better if your Mother leaves your family because she died young from gluttony. I-don't-think-so.

There is no legitimate sex before marriage. There is legitimate Country Buffet ( My thanks to St Augustine on this, for his differentiation of intrinsically evil and not intrinscially evil)
ha! that's funny!

Not really answering, but...

And no one went after CEOs to prevent them from going to hell!

(I know, not as funny, but it says that the idea of sex being bad is funny!)
