Why don't the wealthy today contribute to American society like the wealthy in the early 1900s?

Carnegie built the libraries and provided free schools, said "he who dies rich dies a disgrace".

Rowntree set up the model village for the poor and provided free health, school and a pension fund.

These men used their wealth to expand education, the arts and health of America, they shared the wealth that they owed to the country that enabled them to become wealthy.

Today, Gates and Buffet have set up the world's most elaborate tax shelter by controlling the population of Africa. Why don't the wealthy today contribute to American society like the wealthy in the early 1900s?
I hate to say it, but I atribute it to 2 things.. a decline in Christian morals.. and a steady rise in minority populations.. ie.. the browning of America. So a combination of a drop in morals / ethics and a rise in white reactionary racism.

Also - because we've had it so good, for so long, people are now on autopilot and don't take a personal interest in their citizenship or their personal responsibility to freedom and the Constitution. It's going to take a huge crisis - to make us pull together as American's GWB had the opportunity after 9/11 - but he told us to shop instead of sharing the sacrifice with the volunteer military. Why don't the wealthy today contribute to American society like the wealthy in the early 1900s?
Because rich liberals are "waiting on the government to force them" to. Pretty suspicious if you ask me.

It's perfectly legal for them to give all they own away, today, right now. But, they aren't. They don't. Why is it the government's responsibility to force them to do, what they claim to want to do?Why don't the wealthy today contribute to American society like the wealthy in the early 1900s?
They do, Bill Gates, Warren Buffet. They have a worldwide outlook as opposed to a US only.
Wow, that last line sticks out.
