i live in connecticut, but when i'm interested in finding new places to eat that are sort of off the grid, i go to the free local newspapers. often times there will be advertisements and reviews in free local newspapers of restaurants around town that you normally wouldn't hear about if you were surfing the web or asking around. you can find these most of the time in doorways of businesses or grocery stores.
