Why do Republicans think that taxing the rich at a higher rate is a bad thing?

After all in the Bible they taxed rich more. Europe does it. I do not see Warren Buffet or Bill Gates complaining as they actually were in favor of it. If we tax the 1% of the richest at a higher tax rate than we can cut the deficit. After all they became rich from this country Isn't the needs of the many outweighed by the needs of the few?Why do Republicans think that taxing the rich at a higher rate is a bad thing?
Yes it is the Christian thing to do. Republicans are of a mind set that every man for himself and the Darwinian theory that survival of the fittest and that those who do not make as much deserve less. Taxing the rich is now going to happen soon. Obama promised in his campaign to do so and he will. The Bush tax breaks are what got us into the trillion dollar debts. Now it is time to be fiscally responsible and while it may seem unfair----noone said life was fair, if it was we would all be rich. Republicans are so stubborn with their ideology that when it fails like it has so miserbaly, they cannot even see it. This is why Obama did not accpet their ideas into his Stimulus....why take a failed philosophy and economically dangerous and stupid ideas and try them again? We learned form their errors and now it is time to get back to the Democratic values and to blaance the budget like Clinton did. Republicans unfortunately do not have any say in it anymore...they lost fair and square. They are irrelevant. The only thing they can now do is stick togethor like fools on a sinking ship.
The rich in this country are predominately business owners, corporations and s corps. If their profit is down due to the recession increasing their tax percent will not result in increased revenue. It will still be less then last year. Therefore Obama is lying about decreasing the deficit with these tax hikes. He knows he's lying. Also how do you think companies are going to pay these taxes? By laying off workers. During a recession where unemployment is rising this is the most idiotic plan I've ever heard. Why do Republicans think that taxing the rich at a higher rate is a bad thing?
Because the rich set the agenda for the GOP, and the agenda is to concentrate wealth and power at the top.

It's also an unfortunate streak in the American culture that we admire the rich even if they got their money through less-than-savory circumstances. This came from the Puritans, the Calvinist idea that God chooses certain people to favor and he shows his favor by making them rich and successful, so if someone is rich it only shows that they're more worthy.
I am not a Republican but I disagree with your premise. How about focusing on a work ethic in this country instead of encouraging a sense of entitlement? That's a sure way to get out of this deficit. How about the federal government reducing in size and allowing the states to govern as the Constitution calls for - with minimal interference? Why do Republicans think that taxing the rich at a higher rate is a bad thing?
Spoken like a true liberal socialist. Those two people have made all of their money under the lower tax system. Maybe they carry some guilt for it, which is the day in and day out droning from the left of "pay your fair share".

The rich pay most of the taxes in this country....about 70%. The top 50% of wage earners pay about 90% of the taxes. So why should they pay even more? Oh, that's right because they are smart, work hard and don't expect others to carry them along in life.

Liberals want to be taken care of from the womb to the tomb....
I don't think that most actually have a problem with it. It is the level of the disparity and the fact that many not only don't pay any Federal income tax but have a actual negative tax rate due to the tax credits they are eligible for. If we are all in this together does it make sense to simply give free money to some while taking more from others?..
Because they think that if the rich are taxed less, they will pay their employees more, which would help the middle and lower class.

Which in theory sounds nice but the problem is that the rich are greedy and they wouldn't pay anymore than they do already.

More money for them!
Because I don't work for a poor guy.

Besides if we were all taxed at 10% the rich would pay more. We aren't. They already pay a higher percentage. Yet people like you aren't satisfied with that, you want to raise their percentage even more than it is.
Because it is punishing success. Something you apparently know nothing about.

Who wants to have to pay for some worthless bum to eat anyway? If I want to feed bums, I would invite them for dinner.
if people like you would try working for your money and earning it, instead of gimme, gimme, gimme all the time, maybe you'd sing a different tune...
They are already taxed at a higher rate.

Why do you guys want everyone to be poor and unsuccessful?
How about we cut the deficit by spending only on those activities dictated by the Constitution?
Because you do not get employed by people on welfare. You have to have money to spend it.
Because they are braindead and do not realize that people who live in gigantic mansions can afford to pay a more taxes
Well they don't want to pay more taxes.
We currently tax the wealthy at a higher rate than any other country in the world...even with the Bush tax cuts. They already do pay the greatest share of the total taxes that go into the treasury. To ask them to pay more simply because they CAN...and like asking your neighbor to share his steak with you because all you have is hamburger. If you want steak...earn it. I am not wealthy by any means, but every cent that I do have...I EARNED. No one else did it for me and no one else deserves the benefits from it. If I were in that high tax bracket that the wealthy are in....I would be fighting for all I was worth to stop it. Let people take responsibility for themselves. What are we, a country of spoiled children who covet what everyone else has and expect that it be given to us without us earning it? No wonder our society is going down the tubes.

Most of the wealthy in this country already do care what happens to others and contribute billions toward helping. Even your comment about Warren Buffet and Bill Gates proves that point. They BY CHOICE already provide more than the rest of the country does toward helping others. Even their willingness to pay an extra 1% in taxes stems from their desire to see this country debt free. If you have ever listened to either of them, that willingness is dependent on the fact that if the taxes are raised by that amount, the extra 1% MUST go to pay on the debt...and not into the endless pot of spending.

When the government increases taxes....what they are actually doing is the same thing that we are hollaring about private companies doing right now. Getting a bailout due to their own mismanagement. They come to you and I for that bailout...via taxes.

WE THE PEOPLE have the right to tell our government to cut their expenditures (pork spending) and to use that money to pay against the national debt.....and we had better do it soon. The gravy train has started down the tracks again.
Not being Republican I should avoid answering. But no, Europe does not so much tax the rich more as much as they tax the income that is higher.

Now high real estate taxes, combined with high taxes on bank accounts, investment portfolios are all taxes on the rich more than on the poor. If we want to induce people to move their assets out of the country to avoid taxation, we can do that. Even heavy estate taxes have that effect. It seems that high net worth individuals wil see an opportunity to save large amounts of taxation based on where assets are located.

We can capture taxation when valuable items pass through customs, but that taxes the poor the same as the rich. We can tax sales of goods and services, which can be avoided, and we give an incentive to use tax avoidance strategies. It is not always clear that this is taxing the rich more, although in absolute terms it does.

Charging heavy taxes on the house of a retired couple who have no income must appear justified if the house is worth a lot of money, even if these people were just middle class wage earners. They should have sold out before the house became so valuable.

Heavy taxation on a business that had a bad year and produced no income or lost money but still has a lot of assets might seem justified, but the business may have to close and lay off all its workers. This is a fairly typical result of applying taxation on the basis of assets, or wealth, or being rich.

By contrast, a tax on the profits of a business, while they can slow growth, will not break the company. So, we should likely avoid taxes driven by assets, being rich, and leave them on income.

We can apply taxation on revenue instead of income, which applies taxation that is not profit based, not asset based.

In general a business that has a lot of revenue but no profit could be driven out of business by revenue taxation. But like sales tax, competitors also pay the same revenue taxation so a business can pass on a revenue tax to its customers. Eventually, like sales tax the revenue tax is a tax on consumption based on valuation of goods sold.

Consumption taxes are different, to the extent that higher income earners consume more, and thus use up natural resources, higher income people will pay more, but only if they consume more. If they leave their money invested producing jobs and live sparsely, they can avoid taxation.

Conservation driven consumption taxes may do what you want to accomplish with the least harm to the economy.
The rich are already taxed at higher rates than the average person, and if you take it a step farther, many companies that are traded or have stock are actually double taxed on their holdings. The difference is the rich have money to invest while the average person has enough to live on. your last statement would scare almost everyone who does not want to see socialism take over this nation, is what meets the needs of the many always what is best for all? Be careful what you ask for, you just might get it. The top earners of the nation already pay much more than their fair share, while the middle class and lower live off those taxes.
We should tax Republicans a higher rate because they have a stupid political system. If we tax the rich high enough we can finally get them to leave, and then we will confiscate all the money and jewels they try to take with them as they leave the airport.
